It\u2019s an old American pun and novelty item built around the phrase:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ll do it when I get around to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone eventually turned \u201caround to it\u201d into a literal <strong>round tuit<\/strong> \u2014 usually a coin, wooden token, or medallion handed to procrastinators class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact creator is unknown, but documented uses go back at least to the 1960s and likely earlier in folk humor and sales culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some notable references:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The phrase\/object appeared publicly by the <strong>1964 World\u2019s Fair<\/strong> according to etymology references. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Newspaper advertisements using \u201cRound Tuit\u201d appear in the early 1970s. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It became popular in:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sales training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>motivational speaking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>church groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>office humor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>self-help seminars<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zig Ziglar\u2019s Role<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zig Ziglar did <strong>not invent<\/strong> the Round Tuit, but he became one of the most famous promoters of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He frequently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>carried wooden \u201cRound Tuit\u201d coins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>handed them out during seminars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>used them as a metaphor against procrastination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His 2003 book <em>See You at the Top<\/em> references it directly. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A common Ziglar line was essentially:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow that you\u2019ve got a Round Tuit, you have no excuse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tom Hopkins<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tom Hopkins also used the concept heavily in sales training culture during the 1970s\u20131990s, especially:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>follow-up discipline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>daily activity systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>overcoming procrastination<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there\u2019s no strong evidence he originated it either. He inherited it from broader motivational\/sales folklore already circulating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Most Likely Historical Path<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The concept probably evolved like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Common idiom:<br>\u201cI\u2019ll get around to it.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joke reinterpretation:<br>\u201cround tuit\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Novelty coins\/tokens created in office &amp; sales culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Popularized nationally by:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Zig Ziglar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tom Hopkins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>church speakers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sales trainers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>corporate seminar companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why It Became So Popular<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Round Tuit worked because it combined:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>humor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accountability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a physical reminder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>inexpensive giveaway marketing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which is exactly why it became common in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sales seminars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fundraising<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>motivational products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>corporate swag<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>church\/community campaigns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ironically, your recycled plastic fundraising coin idea is spiritually very close to the original use case \u2014 tangible motivational tokens with meaning and humor attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201cRound Tuit\u201d predates both Tom Hopkins and Zig Ziglar.
